So many of us live or or work near there we should be able to put together a
hell of a party sometime, somewhere around there.

Congratulations! I tried to reply to this e-mail over the holiday weekend,
but the ISP on my mother-in-law's computer refused to even allow me to write
any mail, let alone send it.
Once you get settled in the new job, let's try to have lunch some time since
