Having had so much fun (aside from the chipped foot) at this place for my bachelorette party, I wanted to do it again (not the foot part).

I thought it would be extra fun around the holidays, since they must have a few holiday recordings in their list, and may even add some this time of year. If not, I suppose we could always take a cue from DC and do something acapella ...

Of course, they're sure to have the standard range of pop tunes ... last time we heard our group do Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Led Zeppelin, the Kinks, whoever wrote that Kung Fu song, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Janis Joplin ... and a host of others, but it's too early in the morning for me to rememeber ...

This place has no discernable attitude from the patrons, but great atmosphere - the red curtain and potted palm lit by a spotlight and surrounded by dark booths with little candles may make you think you've wandered into a David Lynch film ... They also have excellent food for what I think was standard L.A. restaurant pricing - I think I got a chicken vodka cream sauce pasta? maybe $11.95? - and other folks got the obscene onion ring towers, among other things ... and a full bar.

I mistakenly thought they only had karaoke on Sunday nights, since most places have "a" karaoke night, and that was the night of my bachelorette party ... So I made arrangements already with a few folks to have it this Sunday ... sorry to those of us who have to work the next day ...

We'll get there sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. Getting there early gives us a chance to eat, and look at the song lists, and drink enough to get up our nerve ...
The karaoke actually starts at 9:00. We'll stay a few hours, I suppose - you know, trickling out as we tire out.

If you can't sing, don't worry. Having done karaoke with only one or two people, and then having done it in a group of people, I find it's so much more fun and easier when you're part of a group, and we'll be cheering for you. You can always just come to drink ... of course, we may ply you with them until you agree to sing ...

Here's the info, including the blurb from the Calendar Live website:

Boardwalk 11
10433 National Blvd., West Los Angeles
310-837-5245
Boardwalk 11 elevates karaoke to a sophisticated and elegant singing experience. You'll feel more like a lounge singer at this swanky karaoke supper club on the Westside with its sound system.
Hours: Karaoke nightly, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

(Joya's note: It's at the corner of National and Exposition. Map attached.)

Hope to see - I mean hear! - you there!

- Joya
