I got in late last night and played my messages of the day.
They were the usual stuff. Except one message: An investigator at the
space shuttle crash site in Texas had called! He had located an
article belonging to "John Turley" in among the debris... NASA
officials thought that *I* might have been on the space shuttle, and
this investigator was following the lead.
I thought it must be a crazy joke, but the phone number that the guy
left was for NASA headquarters in Houston, Texas. I called the guy
back this morning, and . . .
APRIL FOOLS!
Sorry, it is in poor taste. But I could not resist. After the doubts I
had gotten from a handful of folks regarding my passport at the WTC,
this seemed somehow fitting.
