Re: Digest Number 210

Excuse me, what do you mean by asking 'what is a phoneme for Tschibasch?'

A phoneme is defined as a single unit of sound, so /p/, /a/, /sh/, and
/ng/ are single phonemes; the sounds /ch/, /j/ are technically two
phonemes...

The word tschibasch is Romany and stands for "linguist". It is my
spelling for it, intentionally to disambiguate any false pronunciations.

The word for language in Romany is "chib". Think "cheeb", or "chib".
The problem with the "ch" is that when we see it in a foreign word, we
are inclined to pronounce it like the "ch" in Bach. One way to resolve
this is by spelling that sound (the uvular fricative) as "kh". In
Klingon, they simply use a capital "H"...

Okay, so to assure that we get the "ch" sound is by spelling either
with "tsh" or "tsch". I chose the second one.

The word could be thus spelled "chibash", or "tshibash". It is a
peculiar coincidence only that this would sound a little like "syvox".

Sorry about the Linguistics lesson. Again, there was no connection
with SyVox.

On that note, SyVox exists again, in some form! Visit www.syvox.com. I
do not have much information, other than there were some backroom
deals and some payoffs to get control of the intellectual property,
and nasty rumors floating about this person's or that person's
intentions. Very nasty.

This is so stupid, as I see it again and again: SyVox is ailing and
needs your help, and you give it to them, and they give you a f*** y**
for your efforts. Rather than recognize you or reward you, they can
not get rid of you fast enough. Of course, a little later they come
back again and need help again. This time you don't give it, and SyVox
ends up failing. And they put the entire blame on you... SyVox will
continue to fail if it keeps functioning like this!

My question is, why be nasty?

Looking at my own case, I always tried to thank people whenever they
helped me, or return the favor. I was well-known at SyVox, and
well-liked. And the benefit? After I was laid off I was able to
network with a wide group of people. They all remembered me, and had
good things to say on my behalf.
