Very cool - *I* got in two flats of little plants yesterday amid watery
sunshine and very mild sprinkles. Two flats to go. The cat was delighted
with company in his domain and tried very hard to talk me into coming out
again today. Still watery sunshine as I type this but am going out with a
friend for lunch and shopping - dunno if planting is in the offing this
afternoon or not.

Watched Dark Crystal again while spinning dark green wool and keeping the
cats company in the evening. It is a wonderful movie, hard to believe
Labyrinth came out only four years later. The Creature Shop must've started
on it as soon as they got back from a vacation after Dark Crystal.

Did anyone see the Natural History Museum display on the Shop? It was not
long after Dark Crystal was released; I remember a whole wall of *stuff*
that had been used on the creatures - glass eyes, ribbon, lace, feathers,
leather, fur, buttons, beads, doo-dahs. They had freestanding displays
holding Muppets, of course, but also some of their unusual puppets.

Elena

OK, well, here we are at the cabin. Kids are playing marbles.
Debbie's bathing one of them. Swing in the backyard.
Weather's beautiful.

Here's Hiram:

Kids hopped up on poptarts. Debbie playing with a telescope. David
recompiling his compiler then realizing he doesn't have a compiler...
Sledding, innertubing, and snowball fighting yesterday with Susan and
Mark - all of us soaking wet. Watching Galaxy Quest and the Princess
Bride.

Deb's turn:

The weather's been perfect; a little rain on the way in, which gave us
a perfect field for sledding and snowball fights the next day at Mt
Pinos Flats.

The drive was really fast once we passed the 5-14 split, and it took
about an hour to get from there to Gorman. A short 15 minute drive
later, we're at Pine Mountain - and no narrow twisty mountian roads,
either. Today (Sunday) is clear and balmy and in the 40's. Great for
exploring and movie-making.

The cabin is HUGE! We haven't used the downstairs rooms or bathrooms
at all. (Translation: plenty of room for visitors.) We packed WAAY
too much food: there's plenty of Oreo's, dried fruits, popcorn,
bagels, corn chips, "goldfish", hot cereals, tea and cocoa mix. Then
there's the stuff we've been eating. The "backyard" abuts against the
mountain with lots of trees and lichens and we hiked about halfway to
the top yesterday with the kids - up to the "snow" level. (Light
sprinkling here but it's melted today.) David showed Adam how to use
his videocamera and Adam's been poking the lens at everyone ever
since. Michael Moore, look out! There are also tons of videos,
books, charts of animal tracks and birdwatching, and a heater which
works perfectly.

Susan and Mark didn't have it as nice; theirs is a converted trailer
which has heater problems and a small but noticeable leak in the roof
when it rained Friday night. The realtors were very nice about it
and bought them two loads of firewook and told them it was ok to use
the heaters taped shut and marked "do not use." Fortunately, it looks
like no more rain for the rest of the weekend here.

David told us some people rolled their eyes at him when he told them
he was going on a cabin trip with three kids. But he told us that it
was no problem at all. (Although saying it to the face of an
overprotective mommy might have had somehting to do with his
attitude...) Seriously, it's been a fairly calm weekend.

Ryan says: The cabin is good and I'd like to live here 'cause I like
snowball fights and splatting them at Mom. SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT

Adam Says: (nothing - fliming me type this)

Jason says: (nothing - holding the filming light on the computer
while Adam films)
