While this of course is a simplification, it is
a very, very important point to remember, about
countries, corporations, or any large group.

While I won't speculate if large groups have
souls or morals, it is clear that they operate
in a kind of meta-world, complete with their
own set of motivations and values—possibly
some of which we can't even perceive, let alone
predict or influence.

Indeed, one can think of countries and other
large groups as independent, legitimate organisms,
which probably communicate, interact, and, in
a very real way, think.

They're like anthills. The ants don't know what
the anthill is doing. Each ant is just doing his
job, living his life. But somehow, the anthill
makes complex decisions, wages wars, etc.

Same idea, only we're the ants.
