As previously noted, I'm fairly out of touch with the Olive crowd so I have to ask ... Are any of you academically or professionally involved in linguistics at this point? Of course this always was the kind of crowd to be interested in the subject, in general, but I'm curious if anyone is particularly focused on it these days?
After ~20 years in computer networking, I'm now working on a master's in linguistics because ... well ... because I want to, dammit. Still undecided whether I'll pursue the Ph.D. I actually just finished reading Ladefoged's "A Course in Phonetics." My advisor considered herself a personal friend of his and is quite saddened at his passing.
