Maybe the secret is to get one kind of interesting plant that's mostly
forgiving--but that you love. That'll get you out there now and then, and
you can trim the hedges or whatnot while you're at it.
Out here, we leave things to the gardener, but we're in a high-risk fire
zone (with a large yard). Not for much longer, though: anyone want to buy a
bitchin' mid-century house in the hills near Pasadena? The house goes on MLS
this weekend. I'm pretty much paralyzed with terror.
