Can you help me leave the OC?

I know I've been gassing on about this for ages, but I think the time has finally come for me to leave the Greater Anaheim Area. I'm hoping to return to the Greater Santa Monica Area some time this summer (before August, if at all possible).

The plan is to find a job, then move into my mom's guest room (she's still at the same house on Franklin), then find a place to live. I'm at step 0, which is updating my resume(s), but I figured it's never too soon to put out a call for help, so...

1. Any suggestions of resources for job- and/or apartment-hunting would be appreciated. I know about monster.com for jobs, padmapper.com for apartments, and craigslist.org for both. There are dozens of others, but are any of them worth the effort? Also, are there any "real world" resources that anyone can recommend?

2. Does anybody feel like helping edit a resume or two (one for retail, the other for technical jobs)?

3. On the off chance that you happen to hear about a job that might suit me, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. I'm looking for (a) retail, (b) shipping/receiving, or (c) entry-level technical work.

4. I realize that it's a long shot, but if you know of a cheap room which might be available this summer and which would allow me to have a cat, you might want to let me know about that.

Finally, please don't post anything on my wall on Facebook about job hunting. I have a couple of co-workers and some customers as "friends," and I haven't told anybody at work yet that I'm planning to leave.

Thanks for anything,
--Alex
