I think office work might be better than waitressing; it's less dependent on
language skills, and the pace isn't as punishing: *much* better for
fine-tuning one's English. You might ask JK if one of the architectural
offices he works with need office assistant for short periods of time.

Do we know what part of town she would be staying in?--presumably that's
part of the bureaucratic process, but it makes a big difference in L.A. (If
it isn't handled by the university, she might be able to sub-let an
apartment held by an American student--my former tutoree used to let out her
apartment on occasion when she went back to Israel.)

I wonder if UCLA still has a job board; I'll bet SMC does. Do we know what
the dates are?--presumably mid-June through mid-September? Oh, wait: "a
two-month period." July and August?

My Russian friend Sasha, who now lives in Romania, has a 19-year-old
daughter. She can speak English, though maybe not as well as her
father. She is a student at the Medical University in Bucharest.

She would like to come to the USA for a two-month period when the
university has its summer break. There is apparently some deal where
the university works with a tourist agency to arrange short-term US
jobs for students, but there are a lot or barriers to getting them.
The point is that this is a summer vacation, but also an opportunity
to work as well. The university together with the tourist agency
supplies all the visa paperwork for the students, allowing them to
work temporarily in the USA. Most of the students go to New York and
California...

If anyone would have leads for short-term work, such as waitressing,
or any other ideas, please let me know.

John
