See Dorothy L. Sayers' *The Mind of the Maker* for interesting
parallels between humans as creators of characters and God as
creator of humans.
As for the scientific proof of God's existence, you won't get it.
Though there are a number of scientists out there who deeply question
the notion that life could have simply evolved without ANY kind of
divine intervention--"Darwin's black box," and all that. (The line
that struck me was the one about can we imagine an internal-combustion
engine simply evolving on its own?--and how much more complex is the
body/brain of any animal, a human in particular?)
I think there is a need for some sort of connection to the cosmos and
the Creator. People fill it up with any number of things, but I believe
there is a sort of need. For most people.
It's easily distorted, of course. In all sorts of ways.

Even if we could create a universe does not mean that we were created
by some superior being. You do however understand my meaning perfectly
- how can we separate ourselves from "God" if we're all the same on
the basic level? But I question the need for worship and dogma. If
"God" is just a physical force there's no need for Worship of Mass
Dogma - you don't see Physicists kneeling and praising WIMPs and
Quarks. Eliminate the WoMD and you eliminate much grief in the world.
If "God" is more than Physics, well, I'd like to see some proof of
that...
BTW, read Dan Brown's Angels & Demons for a fun read about playing
God.
