My brother's ex-wife was union, as if she had a choice if she wanted
to keep her job. Neat thing about it was they always managed to raise
their union dues at the same time and amount as when she got a raise..
.wow! In return they performed many services for her like...ummmm...
wait a sec. Ummm, yeah!

And don't get me started on United Way. At JPL they rotate each year
whom has to serve as the UW cheerleader and it is considered
"team-spirited" to give and give good. They track donations by org
section and heaven forbid if your section is under 100%. Well,
whatever section I'm in is always under 100% because I've let it known
loud and far that I do not donate through United Way. I donate
directly - that way the charities receive more funding. And I remind
people about this thing called overhead and to search out how much the
UW executives get paid. Why should UW get paid for giving money to
some charity when you can always donate directly? I can't think of a
single charity that doesn't accept direct money and only accepts
through UW.
