Original email message was received Thursday, 11/4/04.
Here are some photos of our trip which has been
blissfully free of both natural and terrorist
incidents so far. We did manage to hear the election
results.. nuff said. I'm sending these to you since
the newsgroup list filters images, and it would take
too much connect time to upload them from here. They
charge f***ing 75c/min, but at least they have wireless,
and our cabin is within range of the cyber cafe.
I've actually been able to shave my connect time down
considerably. Usually it takes 2-3 minutes every morning to
log in, fetch my email, and log out. Composing replies is
done off-line instead of sitting at their expensive kiosks,
and sending usually only takes 30-40 seconds of connect time.
This year, they're also selling bulk minutes packages, which
gets us down to 55c/min only if we use them all, of course.
So far, I've been using like 5 minutes twice a day. We also
share the same account, which helps, although Carlye tends
to stay connected a bit longer.
Yesterday, we did Puerto Villarta, where Carlye swam
with the fishes (well, porpoises), and I skinnydipped
upstream during one of those rainforest hikes they offer.
Sadly, Dean was not present to dish out Mike impressions.
No appendage nibbling fish were present.
Today we had an unstructured walk around Mazatlan to see the
boardwalk sites, and even got a cliff diver doing his thing.
We also lunched at per Mexico's only decent vegetarian
restaurant. Carlye was elated. Regrettably, Dean wasn't
around to imitate Dean doing Mike impressions, but I'm
hoping our Comdex trip will relieve the withdrawl.
Tomorrow will be Cabo San Lucas, where the girls will take
a city sites tour, Carlye's granddad Bob will stay on the
ship drinking beers, and I'll do a suicide snorkel run from
the harbor to the isolated beach at the tip of the cape
while trying to avoid getting run over by tour boats and
jet skis.
Finally we'll spend a couple days at sea returning to Long
Beach, due in on Sunday afternoon, just in time to get home
for Law & Order, Criminal Intent.
