I heard a similar story about Burma (aka "Myanmar"). Apparently
shortly after you arrive you meet a very nice traveler who happens
to be staying at the same hotel as you are. Coincidentally, as you
travel through the country, this person seems to have the same
itinerary as you do! They are always very nice and helpful.

What a shame that the US does not offer such kindness.
