Sue,
Can't say I blame you. We got caught up in the rush to refi a couple
of months ago and did fairly well. I tried calling several companies
to comparison shop - I felt more confident in talking with a real
person, rather than trust our personal data to a computer where anyone
can see it but not necessarily (as in your case) do anything about it.
Anyway, we ended up with Instafi and they did very well by us. Even
dropped the rate when their particular office was having a "special"
of some kind.
They take your info over the phone (it took about 15 - 20 minutes)
then send a Notary over to your home or office with (a HUGE stack of)
papers at your convenience. I had tons of questions and called
Instafi at least a half-dozen times before I was satisfied with their
answers or considered signing anything. Anyway, if you want to check
out their rates: (800)INSTAFI. They've also got a web site (www.
instafi.com) with current rates (5.8 = 30 year, 5.3=15 yr), but it's
still better to talk to a rep in case they do that "special sale"
thingy again.
For what it's worth, after they receive the first payment they do sell
your loan over to a major bank, such as Wash Mutt. They get bulk
discounts for bringing in loans.
Sorry for sounding like an paid advertisement. As for that online
company, I recommend finding their 1-800 number and giving them a
piece of your mind. At volume 11. And get whatever rate you're
offered IN WRITING so they can't back out!!
