I have read a story, similar to Ellison's "I have no Mouth and I Must
Scream" but with a joyful ending - it's impossible to explain but it has
very similar elements to Ellison's story but the humans and the alien
actually find something in common and while it IS a powerful story it is not
a cruel one like Ellison's.

C.J. Cherryh's novella, _Voyager in Night_

Or maybe just a quick browse of Ellison's "I Have no Mouth and I Must
Scream" will do the trick. KILL ALL MACHINES!!!
